Exploring OpenSea’s “Get Based” Series

OpenSea has recently introduced the “Get Based” series, a project aimed at shining a spotlight on artists working within Coinbase’s Base network, a Layer 2 solution for Ethereum. This initiative plans to feature the works of up to 15 artists over the course of the summer, with the first installment focusing on a reimagined piece inspired by the classic “Endless Summer” film, created by artist Carty Sewill, who is also associated with OpenSea.

The “Get Based” series will offer weekly drops on OpenSea’s platform and through Farcaster, a social media protocol. These drops will include open edition NFTs priced at $5 or even available for free. Artists confirmed to participate in the series include well-known figures such as Jhekub, the creator of RGB Punks, Hun, known for “Primitives,” Cryptic Poet, Yiying Lu, Subwway, and Thank You Base God. Notably, Thank You Base God recently oversaw a highly successful free Base NFT mint on OpenSea, resulting in an impressive 181,000 total mints.

OpenSea has been actively promoting Coinbase’s Base network in recent times, highlighting its importance as an emerging chain for building valuable collections. Unlike established Layer 1 chains like Ethereum mainnet or Solana, Base offers a unique opportunity for artists and collectors to explore new possibilities in the NFT space.

The “Get Based” series will align with Base’s “On-Chain Summer II” promotion, set to commence on June 3. This promotional event boasts over 600 ETH (approximately $2.3 million) in prizes, incentives, and gas credits across various projects and protocols within the Base network. The aim is to incentivize further engagement and participation within the ecosystem.

Through the “Get Based” series, OpenSea hopes to create accessible entry points for collectors and promote talented artists working within the Base network. By doing so, the initiative seeks to facilitate expansion and development within the Base ecosystem, contributing to the overall advancement of Web3 and the NFT landscape.
